CLAUSE
Problem
Law firms sell judgement, and judgement is almost impossible to show. Most reach for the same signals: a serif, a skyline, a handshake. CLAUSE is a modern practice that was being read as a traditional one, and that misreading was costing it the clients it was best suited to. It needed an identity that looked like careful thinking rather than inherited prestige.
Strategy
Every word matters. For a firm sold on judgement, the identity is built like a legal document rather than a corporate brochure: an editorial serif carries the argument, a modern sans handles text and digital, and monospaced type sets clauses, references and data. The monogram is a sharp editorial C divided by the vermilion clause line, and that line runs through everything , clause brackets, editorial redaction blocks, a structured legal index, and a double-height “Every word matters.” wall installation. Photography deliberately avoids generic corporate handshakes in favour of sharp crops, real working moments and architectural tension.

The work

Result
The firm now looks like the practice it actually is. The split monogram, the vermilion clause line and the editorial redaction blocks turn the detail of legal work into a visual argument, and the editorial spine holds from a contract template through to the client portal. Nothing in the system reaches for a skyline or a handshake.
